Design

HTC has kept a lot of elements from the 2013 One and has tried to add more metal than ever. The previous HTC One was 70% metal while the One(M8) is a unbelievable 90% metal. The edges have been rounded off which a bit reminiscent to the design used in the Samsung Galaxy Series

Software

A new flagship, a new Sense. This time it's called "6th Sense". This iteration of sense brings a new modern look with bright colours and improved apps and many features. The Camera and gallery app have been changed(more on that later). HTC has also opened up it's Blinkfeed to developers to help expand it's usability. For example you can now see Fitbit achievements directly from Blinkfeed.
It has also added features for ease of use, like being able to double tap to turn on the phone from the locked state.
Also the camera app can be accessed by long pressing the volume key which can also act as a camera shutter key.

The "Duo" Camera

HTC has done it again by adding two ultrapixel cameras at the back, the secondary lens being able to calculate depth and allowing always-on refocusing
Also effects like bokeh are now possible on a smartphone camera
The Camera API has also been made public for developers to make use of this depth data
The camera UI has also been changed adding more controls and allowing to save presets for ease of use later

Dot View Case

HTC also announced the Dot view case that gives a dot matrix like display and also adds gestures for answering calls etc, so that you wouldn't even need to look at the screen

Motion gestures

Sense 6 also brings some motion gestures for ease of use

  2. Double tap the screen to wake it up
